Dr. Arturo Chayet
 
     
 

Dr. Chayet received his degree in Refractive and Cornea Surgery from the University of California in San Diego. Dr. Chayet has focused his practice in refractive surgery and has become one of the most renowned refractive surgeons in the world. He was the first surgeon to perform LASIK in 1994 in western Northamerica.

Dr. Chayet is an ex-president of the Mexican Society of Refractive Surgery. In 1999, he was elected member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Refractive Surgery. Dr. Chayet has been renowned worldwide for his contribution to the development of instruments, techniques and software now used in refractive surgery. He was the first surgeon in the world to plant the Intraestromal Ring to correct hyperopia.

He was awarded the LANS award in 2000 by the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), one of the most important awards for a refractive surgeon.

He has written several reports for prestigious ophthalmology journals, and several chapters in books about refractive surgery. Dr. Chayet has enjoyed teaching for the last four years as director of the Fellowship in Refractive Surgery at Codet Aris Laser Vision Institute. He is often invited as a guest speaker in conferences throughout the world.

Dr. Gina Garduño
 
     
 

Dr. Gina Garduño was born in Tijuana, Baja California, she studied in the school of medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (“Autonomous University of Baja California”), Tijuana Campus, where she graduated with honors in 1985. From 1988 to 1991 she specialized in Ophthalmology in the Hospital de Especialidades, Centro Medico de Occidente in Guadalajara, Jalisco (Specialties Hospital, Western Medical Center). Afterwards, she specialized in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Pediatrics Hospital of the same medical center.

She received strabismus training at the Hospital Gea Gonzalez de SSA (Gea Gonzalez Hospital), in Mexico City from the renowned Strabismus Specialist, Dr. Emma Limon de Brown. From 1991 to 1992 she did an ovservership in the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus department of at Children's Hospital in San Diego. Since then she has been invited as a guest speaker in a number seminars in her field, standing out in subjects focused on Retinopathy in Premature Babies. In 1998 she established a Retinopathy prevention program in our city.

She has been renowned for her altruistic work as a volunteer doctor in charge of the Pediatric Ophthalmology services of the Hospital Infantil de las Californias in Tijuana (“Children's Hospital of the Californias”) and is currently the Medical Director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus department of Fundacion CODET para la Prevencion de la Cegura I.B.P . She forms part of the medical team of the CODET Institute since 1991, in the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus department. Currently she is head professor of the Ophthalmology course of the school of medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California.

Dr. Marina Ramírez
 
     
 

Dr. Marina Ramirez Alfaro was born in Mexicali, Baja California, she studied in the school of medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (“Autonomous University of Baja California”), Mexicali Campus, where she graduated with honors for her performance as an intern. She obtained her Obstetrician Medical Degree in 1989. She moved to Mexico City to continue her studies in the ophthalmology specialty at the Hospital Centro Medico La Raza (La Raza Hospital Medical Center) from February 1989 through February 1992, honored with the Excellence Award in her final examination.

She decided to further specialize in glaucoma at the Ophthalmology Institute of the Hospital Conde de Valenciana , from February of 1992 through March of 1993. Since then she lives in Tijuana, Baja California, and is the first specialist in Glaucoma in the northeast region of the country.

She has been a guest speaker in a number of seminars and conferences. She has also participated as a national researcher in the development of medicines to fight blindness caused by Glaucoma, such as the prostamide analogues, beta blockers and combinations of the two. In her desire to give back to others, she has worked as a volunteer doctor at the Hospital Infantil de las Californias in Tijuana (“Children's Hospital of the Californias”), she has been invited to coordinate the National Glaucoma day in the state, a prevention campaign held every years since 1998.

In 2002 she was invited to form part of the select group of doctors of Fundacion CODET para la Prevencion de la Cegura I.B.P ., to head the Glaucoma department, where the most advance procedures are practiced on the deprtment's patients. Currently she participates jointly with the University of Irvine California as director of a research protocol developing a new surgical technique called Gonietomia.

Dr. Ana Luz Rábago
 
     
 

Dr. Rabago studied in the school of medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (“Autonomous University of Baja California”), Tijuana Campus. When she completed her rotational internship at the city's General Hospital, she was honored with the Excellence Award for being the best intern in that year. Afterwards, eager to continue her studies she did her post graduate studies in General Ophthalmology at the Hospital Universitario Dr. Angel Leaño (“Teaching University Dr. Angel Leaño”) Hospital in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

She continued studying in San Diego, California, specializing in Oculoplasty at Shiley Eye Hospital Center, of the University of California in San Diego with renowned Dr. Don Kikkawa. She currently works at the Ophthalmology Center of Tijuana, as chief of the Oculoplasty Department that deals with eyelid, orbit and lacrimal illnesses, as well as esthetic surgery of the eyelids.

To further her continuous education Dr. Rabago attends and participates in a number of ophthalmology and oculoplasty national and international seminars, which allows her to give high quality attention to her patients.

Dr. Valente García de Quevedo
 
     
 

Dr. Valente Garcia de Quevedo Padilla was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco. He studied medicine in the Universidad de Guadalajara (“University of Guadalajara”) in 1987. He did his internship at the Instituto Nacional de Nutricion Dr. Salvador Zubiran (“National Nutrition Institute Dr. Salvador Zubiran”) in Mexico City.

He studied ophthalmology at the Centro Medico Nacional de Occidente (“Western National Medical Center”) in 1995. The title of his dissertation paper was Cataract with a Minimum Incision without using Phacoemulsification.

He was awarded a scholarship by Codet Aris Vision to study Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery jointly with the University of California in San Diego, as observership.

In 2000, Codet hired him as an associate in the Anterior Segment department, where still works. He is a member of the medical team of Fundacion CODET para la Prevencion de la Cegura I.B.P . He has participated in a number of seminars, mainly in the United States. He is currently researching with Calhoun Vision in Pasadena, California, new surgical techniques in anterior segment.
